The following is a poem read by Frances S-C, a student of the Arts Mentorship Academy. A transcript is provided below.

Next week I start fifth grade.
People think I’ve not gone to school because of the way I look.
But it’s not that. It’s ‘cause of my surgeries—some big, some small.
Even though I know I am not an ordinary kid on the outside, but on the inside I am.
Sometimes, my family says I’m even better than ordinary.
They say I’m extraordinary!
