The following is an example of an assignment given to students of the Arts Mentorship Academy. This project was lead by Karen Isailovic, mentor for POD 3.
Reminder: The colored pencil study = hatch/cross hatch two primary colors to make the secondary color. The “chimney” block is the secondary color out of the box, so you can compare the variety between the secondary color you created and the one manufactured. It is best to do this exercise (color swatches) like this with all your materials: watercolor, pastel, pencils, acrylic, etc. The more familiar you become with your materials, the better. The last group of photos show a couple of pattern-play we did not finish today. These photos show the process of drawing your design in pencil, erasing the pencil lines leaving a “ghost” of the pattern, then outlining using a fine tip black marker, followed by laying in colored pencil. Enjoy!
